The walk starts off from Holyport, which is a really small village in Berkshire, between Windsor and Maidenhead. But in spite of the close proximity of these two towns, it is very rural and I absolutely loved it (have I been on a walk that I don't love?) Even the short walk in the village was breath taking. I parked at the Belgian Arms pub and took off along Holyport street. It must be one of the nicest streets in UK. All the old houses perfectly made up, topiaries in the gardens etc.
Soon after I was joined by a woman with her two dogs. She had been a housekeeper in a house that was used as a falconry for royals. When finding out that I was Estonian, she mentioned that her neighbours are polish and they are nice people. It made me laugh, cause these two nations are very far from each other. She also said that she didn't like Germans, because of the war, but what has a common German to do with the war? She very kindly directed me when our paths departed. I like meeting new people.
The walk carried on over the fields. The weather was so much colder than it used to be. I even had my raincoat on for the wind. At one point I had to cross five fields and it is thought that maybe that's where Fifield got it's name from.
This area has lots stables, stud farms and riding schools. So you can see horses very frequently. My children take riding lessons in Fifield too. Apparently Elizabeth II and her sister Princess Margaret learned to ride in Holyport. I didn't see any horses for a long time, just the hoof prints. And then I came across this greedy rider with four horses:)
Summer has been such a faithful companion to me. I bet she would love much more to just play with other dogs instead of walking with me. We met a man with two dogs and as Summer was off lead I realised that they are gun dogs. Although I have done so much training with her, I still have problems with her obedience when there are distractions )food, other dogs etc). And I gave up gun dog training her, just cause she is mostly a pet. But also because she has been too playful and I can't make her do what I tell her when I want. So anyway, I was quite embarrassed when that man started to show off his two super obedient gun dogs. He showed me what to do with Summer and it kind of worked, cause next day she was much more obedient (or was I imagining it?:)
Last bit of my walk took me to a little footpath that even had a name - "Click Clack". And apparently it is haunted! How glad was I that I finished my walk before midnight:)
